News Updates

In the interests of not posting a ton of blog entries here, I will summarize many different topics in one post:

  1. The KGB Lions soccer team (at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary) will be having their final match this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on the Seminary soccer field. Thanks to all our faithful fans who have helped us to have our best season in many years! There was even an article about the Lions in this past week's edition of the Review.

  2. The annual Seminary Novena will begin next Monday night (Monday, December 5) at 7:30 p.m. in the Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's St. Joseph's Chapel, and will continue every night thereafter (at the same time) until the next Wednesday (December 14). Admission is free, and the Novena is open to anyone who is interested in coming. There will be many different priests coming to give great homilies, and our choir will sing beautiful songs they've been working on for over a month now!

  3. The Pope has declared a plenary indulgence for December 8 (the feast of the Immaculate Conception): "In a November 29 announcement, the Vatican said that Pope Benedict has declared the indulgence to mark the 40th anniversary of the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council. The announcement indicates that the Pope "when he renders public homage of praise to Mary Immaculate, has the heartfelt desire that the entire Church should join with him, so that all the faithful, united in the name of the common Mother, become ever stronger in the faith, adhere with greater devotion to Christ, and love their brothers with more fervent charity." Source: EWTN.

  4. On December 9, the movie Narnia will be released by Disney. Being an great fan of C.S. Lewis, I was a little distraught when I read he might not have approved of this theatrical release, but I am still looking forward to seeing the movie as soon as possible. The Chronicles of Narnia were some of the best works of literature I've read, and I heartily recommend them to anyone of any age able to read.

  5. I will be having an extraordinarily busy couple of weeks, so I won't be able to do much online... but I will keep all of you who have requested me to pray for you in my prayers.

  6. To those of you in the St. Louis Archdiocese: Be on the lookout for a Seminarian at your parish Masses - we will be visiting many of the parishes in our Archdiocese to speak to you about the upcoming Christmas collection, and to meet with and talk to the faithful of the Archdiocese (it's great to be in the parishes every once in a while!).

De Smet 48, Hazelwood Central 31 in State Championship Game

Kudos to the De Smet Spartans, who won the Missouri state football championship game last night, with a final score of 48 to Hazelwood Central's 31. It was a well-fought battle, and both teams played very well. Hazelwood never gave up, and gave quite a scare at the beginning of the fourth quarter! I'm also glad that both teams' fans and coaching staff were good sports, not booing too much, but ensuring a lively and exciting game.

School begins again on Monday, and the semester ends soon; I am reminded that the annual Seminary Novena will be fast approaching—more details to follow.

iTunes Music Store Beats B&N and Sam Goody in Music Sales

I read an interesting bit of news today: "iTunes Music Store Cracks Top 10 List of Leading U.S. Music Retailers in Q3 2005". Some obvious facts that this story highlights: iTMS is #1 in online music download sales, iTMS is here to stay (good for those of us who have purchased more than a couple songs!), and online music downloads are gaining momentum. I wonder when video downloads will actually catch on—I predict it will take at least five years before people en masse adopt video content downloads...

In other news, the KGB Lions Soccer team played an awesome game against arguably the best team in the CYC league, and held them to a score of 2-3 (we lost, but we aren't ashamed at all!). We will have one more game this year, and it will probably be in two weeks. Stay posted for more info.

I'm off to mi casa for Thanksgiving break, and at the beginning of the break, I thought it might be good to reflect on what I'm thankful for (everyone else seems to be doing it, so...). I'd have to say that I am completely in awe of all that God has given me, and I thank him for everything, but most especially my Mom, Dad and other family members. They have really made a difference in my life the past few months (even if they didn't know it). I hope everyone who reads this remembers to especially thank their own parents and siblings during this holiday; you don't know how important gratitude can be in maintaining a wonderful relationship!

Priestie Boyz Concert a Success!

Tonight (a few hours ago), the Priestie Boyz won first place in SLU's 'Canapalooza' talent show! It was a great event, and many of our tried-and-trusted fans showed up to support us. We would like to thank all those who were present, and I'll be posting some video and pictures from the event when I get a spare moment.
